"This is not an ordinary Uzbek cemetery, it's a real land of death in Samarkand.
Its first buildings date back to the ninth century. One of the legends says that Kusam Ibn Abbas (cousin of Muhammad) was buried here who brought Islam to Uzbekistan. The metropolis is divided into two parts. The first historic one like the old city and the second one with the Avenue of Stars, where we find rather modest graves, but with sumptuous gravestones and great pictures of the dead. The cemetery is really impressive. It is very well maintained, the shrubs are evenly cut and are clean. Following the main road, we can see how the dead look at us from their great photos on tombstones. It makes an unusual impression. However, the most interesting, historical part of the visit are fabulous, historic buildings… ”
